The Bristol Challenge

Race 3 of the Mountain Empire Challenge

Well this was the 3rd and final race of the 3-part Mountain Empire Challenge.  Of the 3 races this was a nice one to end on.  It consisted of an 18 mile road-bike on some nice country roads, followed by a flat 4 mile run on a gravel lake trail, and finishing with a 2 mile lake canoe leg.

Team Retching Yaks consisted of the recently and almost healed Captain Yak, the incomparable and always fetching Kai-Yak, and the comedic and maniacal Yak Daddy.

We began with the biking and quickly realized that road bikes are always preferable on, get this now...roads.  However, our mountain bikes soon stopped bucking and jumping and settled in for the ride.  It is amazing how eighteen miles of road can seem longer than 18 miles of trail.  I guess it is because there is less overall body work and more straight pedaling.  Captain Yak's supposedly recently healed hip was SCREAMING at the end of the biking.  On to the run.

Yak Daddy ruled the run with his machine-like pace!  The Captain limped along determined not to let pain slow him for a "wimpy 4-mile run."

The canoeing was fun and fast.  The Yaks accomplished this leg as quick as anyone and finished the race in 2nd place in the Adventure Team division.

At the finish line was a great meal and some good music.  What a way to wrap up the Mountain Empire Challenge series!
